A wide range of Flying Scot build dates were evident by observing the competitors sail numbers where numbers ranged from #25 to #5472.  A total of eleven Flying Scots from Richland Washington Fleet 186 and Seattle Washington Fleet 100 competed in the two day event sailed off shore of Fort Warden State Park on the Puget Sound.  This location continues to be popular with past and present fleet members.

Fishing Bay Yacht Club in Deltaville, VA, posted their 74th Annual One Design Regatta on August 10-11, 2013, with Optis, Lasers, Albacore, Front Runner, San Juan, Typhoon and Flying Scots.  Saturday everyone got in 2 races, but Sunday, only the Optimists were able to race - just not enough wind.

Sunday 8/11 brought us another beautiful day at Saratoga Lake, NY, with light and variable southeast winds to start the last race. The winds were fluky and spotty towards the middle of the race, then died near the end if the course. The leaders sat near the finish line waiting to see if they could get what they needed to just make it across the finish line. The wind finally came in from the southwest pushing several of the other boats right up to the leaders, but not quite in time to beat them. Saturday 8/10 -The sky was beautiful and there were brisk winds 14 - 20+ from the Southwest that gave us a real challenge on the racecourse today. 19 boats ventured out and we all managed to stay upright, although a few boats ALOMST went over. Over the course of the 4 races, the wind continued to build, but we stayed out and kept racing. There were a few people after the races saying "I have to call Harry", but mostly boats stayed intact even in the heavy air. Results to date are here ...

2013 SD RegattaThe Deep Creek Yacht Racing Association at Deep Creek Lake in Western Maryland, held its annual Sandy Douglass Memorial Regatta on July 27 - 28, with 51 Flying Scots competing.  As is the norm with Fleet 6, the local sailors hosted off-lake sailors including Larry Taggart from New Orleans, LA, Dan Goldberg from Bethel Park, PA, and Tom Dawson from Boardman, OH, and their crews.  You can read more about the regatta in an upcoming issue of...
