We’re here at beautiful Ft.Walton Beach Yacht Club - boats are arriving, registration/check-in starts soon. Fifty or so boats are headed this way! Can’t wait to sail⛵️⛵️⛵️

Registration is open for the 2022 Midwinters at Fort Walton Yacht Club in sunny Florida!   You can get more information about the NOR and registration here.  Hope to see lots of folks registering for the event after 2 years of waiting!  Can't wait!

 

Recently the Flying Scot Facebook page received a question concerning the legality of a transom safety line which was not attached to the rings.

The system in the photos involves a line crossing the transom. The ends of the line are attached to bungee cords inside the boat. The bungees pull the ends into the hull via fairleads in the transom. When required, the line can be pulled out/down and used as a footstep to assist in getting back into the boat. This system does not meet the Class requirement for a Safety Line.

Sorry to report that long time Flying Scot Sailor Jack McClurkin died early this week while vacationing in Florida.  He had sailed Scots since the 1980's, served as an FSSA Executive Committee member, and regularly attended regional and national Scot events for four decades.  In his most recent Scot event, he and crew Marc Schillebeeckx finished 11th of 31 at the competitive Glow in the Dark regatta in October, 2021.  Jack was a businessman and entrepreneur for years living in the Chicago, IL area and in retirement earned his Captain's Pilot license and...
