In the multi class 55th Annual Wurstfest at Lake Canyon Yacht Club in Texas, 15 Flying Scots raced 4 races over 2 days. Griffin and Sydney Orr were 1st, Jeff Foerster and crew were 2nd and Keith Xars and crew were 3rd.

2023 Fall 48 Top 5

The Fall 48 started with a cool Friday night dipping into the 30s, but the firepit and the wide variety of homemade chillis made for a cozy evening at the clubhouse.   We had 25 boats registered and crews from 7 different states.  We were all pleasantly surprised when Saturday’s forecast for no wind was wrong.  Great breeze during the skippers meeting sent the boats out to the race course.  After a short postponement, the wind filled in from the east at 3 to 5mph.  We had flat water, sunny skies and temps in the low 70s so we got a race started.  Carol Sandke and crew Treez Decker got to...

The Flying Scot Class has established wind and sailing guidelines. These are guided by both safety and the nature of this particular boat and are the result of many hours of discussion and experience.

The Sail-Fest Flying Scot Regatta on Kentucky Lake gave racers an experience in extremes this weekend.  For race one on Saturday, winds were out of the South at 16-18 kts with gust at 24 and maybe higher.  Of the 15 boats checked in, 9 boats braved the strong winds for a "white knuckle" ride.  After a 2 hour postponement to see if the wind would calm a bit, race 2 had 12 - 14 kts....
