Dixie Lakes

Dixie Lakes

The Dixie Lakes District encompasses several fleets in the South that are not on the Atlantic or Gulf Coasts, and span Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina.

In Georgia we have Lake Lanier in Atlanta. In Tennessee we have Privateer Yacht Club in Hixson. In South Carolina we have Western Carolina Sail Club in Anderson and Keowee Sailing Club in Seneca. In Alabama we have North Central Alabama in Birmingham, Mussel Shoals Sailing Club in Lauderdale and Brown's Creek Sailing Association in Guntersville.

The District Governor is Andy Fox.

The District has a Facebook group here.

Dixie Lakes District Championship - Muscle Shoals Sailing Club, September 5th and 6th, 2015   Normally we like to hold our District Championship in the Spring or Fall. If you’ve ever sailed in the Southeast in the summer, you know why. It’s usually very hot, very humid, and little to no wind unless there’s a thunderstorm nearby. Despite the potential challenges, Joel VerPlank, Willson Jenkins and the rest of the crew from fleet 190 forged ahead with plans for a regatta to be... Read More
The Flying Scot fleet at Lake Lanier and their guests had a great time on 9/13 and 9/14/2014 at the Scot-a-Hoochee regatta.  Racing was challenging as storm clouds moved around us Saturday, creating big wind shifts.   We got in four races Saturday and finished in a dying breeze.  Sunday conditions were light rain and a shifty east breeze and we got in two races before we headed in for lunch.  The top four finishers were... As usual, we had a great turnout of scots from our sister Dixie Lakes fleets, and from our “adopted” members from Clinton Lake in Illinois. Privateer’s Fleet 13 was proud to host the first regatta in its “almost finished” brand-new clubhouse. The new facility, which replaced an aging structure built in 1953,... Read More

The "First Annual" Scotahoochee Regatta was held at the Lake Lanier Sailing Club on September 14-15, but it was actually the second Flying Scot regatta held at LLSC -- the first being our 2012 Dixie Lakes District Championship Regatta on the same weekend last year.  Scott and Sharon Adams, helped by several fleet members (a special "thank you" to Peter Kowalski), have figured out very quickly how to put on a first class regatta.  Keith and I shared a sweet little rental cabin on the...
