2020 Flying Scot Midwinters Cancelled

District:

Flying Scot Midwinter Championship Update

Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus COVID-19 and the recommendations of the CDC, the FSSA has canceled the Midwinter Championships in Fort Walton, Florida scheduled for March 21 – 26.

  1. The CDC and WHO have, as of yesterday, recognized the C virus as pandemic and now potentially affects everyone not just a limited few countries.
  2. These health organizations recommend against all non essential traveling (which would include travel to voluntary regattas).
  3. Regattas have a very “social” component (dinners, de-briefing sessions, beer drinking, etc.) and these would need to be modified significantly (social distancing).  It may take the fun out of the way we’d like to normally behave at these things (hugging, kissing, shaking hands, hanging out, etc.).
  4. By cancelling now, we are hoping that there might be more time to make arrangements/get deposits back etc., from hotels than if we waited until the last minute.

Although 2020 has been cancelled, we are grateful that Fort Walton Yacht Club has agreed to be the host of the Midwinters in March of 2021 and we look forward to seeing you all there.

We hope that everyone stays safe and healthy during this pandemic, and that it concludes soon so that we can see you on the water in the near future.

The Board of Governors meeting will still occur, via conference call, as scheduled on Thursday, March 19th.
