Carolinas

 

The Carolinas District encompasses fleets in North and South Carolina as well as a fleet in Virginia.

In North Carolina we have Carolina Sailing Club in Durham, Lake Norman in Mooresville, Lake Townsend Yacht Club in Greensboro and Moorehead City Boating Club in Moorehead City. In South Carolina, we have Lake Murray Sailing Club in Columbia and South Carolina Yacht Club on Hilton Head Island. And in Virginia we have Smith Mountain Lake in Lake Roanoke.

The District Governor is Dave Safirstein.

  Western Carolina Sailing Club, in Anderson South Carolina, held our 17th Annual Hospice Regatta this past weekend. The event raises funds for a local non-profit Hospice Organization called Hospice of the Upstate. The Regatta is part of the National Hospice Regatta Alliance where events are held all over the country to benefit a local Hospice charity.   The 2017 Carolina Ocean Challenge Regatta was hosted by the South Carolina Yacht Club on Hilton Head Island, SC, on October 7-8, 2017.  Nineteen boats participated in 5 classes with 11 Harbor 20s, 2 Handicap with Spinnakers, 3 handicap no spinanakers, and 3 Flying Scots participating.  The 3 skippers are from Calrolinas Fleet 134 at The Yacht Club of Hilton Head.    Pictured here is Flying Scot... There were 38 Scots registered for the 43rd Great 48 at Lake Norman Yacht Club in Mooresville, NC .  A full story and pictures are coming soon, but for now, enjoy these videos.  The capsize even made Scuttlebutt with the caption "Paul Simon says there are 50 ways to leave your lover but we found a Flying Scot skipper who came up with another way".  Full results are here.
