GELCOAT REPAIR ISSUE

I recently purchased FS4240 built in 1987.  Great boat but looking to fix it up over ther winter.  I have some gouges in the hull under the gunnel and the bow stem.  I removed the bow stem and cleaned up some of the Bondo that was applied.  The gouge went through the inner orange gelcoat layer.  It's about an inch in diameter and maybe  a 1/8th inch deep.  i looked over the Forum info on how to do the gelcoat repair in general but need some incite into my particular issue.  Do I have to fiberglass or can I just gelcoat without worrying about shrinkage with something this deep and large?  I've linked some photos.  Any input would be great.Thanks,Marchttp://web.me.com/zgums1/filechute/FS4240%20Pics.zip
