Accomodations for 2010 NACs

Forums:

I'm trying to find nice accommodations for this year's NACs. Looking on the internet at various hotel websites is a bit depressing. So far the closest place I've found with "recommended" hotels is Gulfport, MS or Slidell, LA. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel to stay in at an affordable price close to the venue? Are there going to be any special rates/room blocks at area hotels? I know it's only February, but June will be here before you know it.

If you want to be close, you may want to check into renting a house. The Hollywood casino isn't too far, but the rooms are over $100/night.

Thanks Bill, I'll keep checking the BWYC and the FSSA websites to see Ann Edwards response. I saw on the BWYC that they allow camping on the club grounds, has anyone used these facilities before, I'd be tenting it?

Harry, assuming that you're attending this year, have you figured out where ya'll are going to stay yet? Any idea at to which is closer/provides better access; Gulfport or Slidell?

I am planning to stay at a house in the Bay St. Louis area with some friends for the NAC. I am not in charge of the arrangements, so I cannot be more specific

Regarding your quesion of Slidell vs Gulfport, I would go with Gulfport because the drive is very scenic and really not all that far. The last time the NAC was in Gulfport, I stayed in Bay St. Louis and it was an easy drive with not much traffic. The BWYC is a beautiful new building with good showers so you do not need to travel back and forth more than once per day.

First and foremost, let me state that the tragedy taking place in the Gulf related to the oil spill and it's environmental and economic loss is first priority; the facilitation of a sailboat regatta is rightfully so, low on the list of priorities right now.

That being stated, have local authorities given any indication as to the access to bay waters for recreation if this situation continues to deteriorate and if access is restricted, is there consideration being given by regatta organizers to an alternative venue.

Unfortunately, the six week window is closing in for cancellation of housing deposits without a penalty and it seems that local realtors are unwilling to amend their refund policies at this time.

Let's all pray for a timely end to this devastating event, with as little impact as could be reasonably expected for such a disaster.
