I race PHRF with the Greenhaven Sailing Club on the Pawcatuck River between CT and RI. My rating is 210 which appears to be very fair with all the other boats (we have a very diverse fleet).

Understand 210 PHRF seems right for Flying Scot.

Understand 210 PHRF seems right for Flying Scot. I'm sure that would include Spinaker. What would PHRF be without Spinaker? Want to participate in a "Motley" social race series on Sarasota Bay that doesn't allow Spinakers. Thanks.

As long as all the boats are racing without spinnakers it won't matter. It'll still be 210. If you're racing in a fleet with spin and non-spin boats the adjustment can vary but will be something like +/- 15 seconds. Randy

That is correct - I race in Florida in friendly club races with spin and non-spin classes. The club rated the FS at PHRF 213. If I decide to fly the chute during a race my PHRF rating is penalized 15 (equal to 15 seconds) and drops to 198. That seems fair.

PHRF of Narragansett Bay just gave me a provisional base rating

PHRF of Narragansett Bay just gave me a provisional base rating of 192 and a spinnaker rating of 186. With a difference of 6 seconds a mile it looks like I'll be forced to use the chute to be at all competitive.

"Forced" to use the spinnaker?! That's the best part.
