Carolinas
The Carolinas District encompasses fleets in North and South Carolina as well as a fleet in Virginia.
In North Carolina we have Carolina Sailing Club in Durham, Lake Norman in Mooresville, Lake Townsend Yacht Club in Greensboro and Moorehead City Boating Club in Moorehead City. In South Carolina, we have Lake Murray Sailing Club in Columbia and South Carolina Yacht Club on Hilton Head Island. And in Virginia we have Smith Mountain Lake in Lake Roanoke.
The District Governor is Dave Safirstein.
Blackbeard Sailing Club in New Bern, NC, hosted the 2021 ACC on 9/11-9/12/2021. There were 17 boats on the line and there was a little wind on Satruday for 3 races. No wind on Sunday so no racing on Sunday. The best story of the regatta is that Hull #24, sailed by very new Scot sailors, got to the weather mark 1st in the second race. As the premier one-design regatta of North Carolina, the 64th annual the Governor's Cup drew 84 boats in ten fleets, including eight Flying Scots. In near perfect weather on Saturday, PRO Bill Jarvis and the capable race committee kicked off six starts per race, three races over the day. Many of the sailors celebrated the Father's Day weekend by sailing with their sons or daughters, including Flying Scot sailor Charlie Buckner with his son Silas. Sunday racing was cancelled... Beaufort Yacht Club in South Carolina is looking to increase its visibility to the Flying Scot class and they would love to form a fleet. Their multi-class Low County Regatta on June 21-23, 2024, is a great place to get some Flying Scots on the line.
