Roger Punzi

Roger Punzi, in whose honor this regatta is held, would be thrilled to see the number of boats that came to this regatta!  He was an avid Flying Scot sailor who supported the fleet for many years.

Day 2 on Sunday 10/6 brought pouring rain and 10-12 knot winds, 4 guest boats we're still at the regatta, but two of those decided not to brave the elements.   In the end we ran two races with 8 boats on the line with Roger and Kate Sharp from Massapoag walking away...

Candlewood pirates

Well, we didn't get any wind on Saturday, 10/5 at Candlewood, but we had pirates! I guess they thought they could scare everyone out on the race course in case pure skill was not enough! Argh I say!

While we did not race, we had a really great time visitng with old and new friends. There were 20 boats from 3 states registered and ready to go if the predicted wind actually materialized.  Brian Hayes from North Sails was good enough to hold a sail trim...

Have you ever sailed your Flying Scot in the moonlight? It is an extraordinary experience to be on your boat at night with just the moonlight and Mother Nature to guide you. Our club, Massapoag Yacht Club in Sharon, MA, organizes two of these events a year, and although it is always a blast being out there with others, it does not need to be an organized or group event. You’ll want to do this on a night that has as close to a full moon as possible to get the best results. Saturday of the seventh annual Glow in the Dark regatta at Clinton Lake Sailing Association was a blowout. Winds gusted to the low 30s as the afternoon wore on, like a sirocco or the Santa Anas. Still, there was plenty of beer and friendly visiting. Many of us enjoyed admiring class president Frank Gerry’s new boat, Eva, which Harry and Karen delivered to the regatta.

Flying Scot fleet 177 hosted the Fontelieu / Fall Classic this past weekend at Cedar Point YC in Westport, CT. 15 Thistles and 9 Flying Scot enjoyed Cedar Point YC sailing at its finest. SE winds at 10 knots on both days and spectacular sunshine. The PRO for the weekend was Dick Thackaberry and team who also were the race committee team for the 2011 NAC’s at Cedar Point.

On Saturday, 3 races were held with Josh Goldman and John Cooke trading first and second place position throughout the day. Rob and Linda Cohen show great speed throughout the day to settle into third place. Sister...
