2014 NAC Measurement2014 NAC Sk Mtg2014 NAC Welcome

All measured in, business meetings concluded, skippers meeting done, and Flying Scot Sailors were ready to party tonight!  Toms River Yacht Club put on a wonderful welcome party tonight in the newly renovated dining room!  With a neighboring yacht club hosting an event at the same time, we'll be racing farther out on the bay than usual.  Our hosts have made arrangements to tow us all out to the race course so we are ready to go at the first gun and not too tired from sailing out to the course.  We look forward to a super day for racing on Monday 7/21 with an East wind at 5-10 knots predicted. Results will be posted here daily!

2013 Punzi Memoral Regatta at Candlewood YC, New Fairfield, CT - Day 2

Roger Punzi

Roger Punzi, in whose honor this regatta is held, would be thrilled to see the number of boats that came to this regatta!  He was an avid Flying Scot sailor who supported the fleet for many years.

Day 2 on Sunday 10/6 brought pouring rain and 10-12 knot winds, 4 guest boats we're still at the regatta, but two of those decided not to brave the elements.   In the end we ran two races with 8 boats on the line with Roger & Kate Sharp from Massapoag walking away with first place honors, John and Connie Eckart from Massapoag took second and Candlewood's own Corey Loke came in third. People tell us they enjoyed the hospitality and will be back.  Fleet 24 is rebounding and this was our first attempt at putting on a sanctioned event in many years.  To receive such great support from neighboring fleets and individuals in the region really speaks to the quality of the community of folks who race this little boat.  Candlewood Yacht Club would like to extend a hearty thank you to all who supported this event even if the sailing was not what we had hoped for If your ever in the area please stop by and say hello and perhaps we can find some better wind than we had on Saturday.  Thanks again -CYC

2013 Punzi Memoral Regatta at Candlewood YC, New Fairfield, CT - Day 1

Candlewood pirates

Well, we didn't get any wind on Saturday, 10/5 at Candlewood, but we had pirates! I guess they thought they could scare everyone out on the race course in case pure skill was not enough! Argh I say!

While we did not race, we had a really great time visitng with old and new friends. There were 20 boats from 3 states registered and ready to go if the predicted wind actually materialized.  Brian Hayes from North Sails was good enough to hold a sail trim clinic while we were waiting and lots of good questions came from both new and experienced sailors - there is always someting new to learn and the tips can come in handy.

We felt a little better when we checked what was happening at the J22 Worlds in Newport, RI, where they ran out of wind for the second race today. By the way - good buddy Al Terhune and crew took 1st place and another good buddy Benz Faget and crew took 5th place in a field of 71 boats!  Congratulations!

After waiting until 2PM, the Candlewood regatta committee fed us a fabulous barbeque and offered to reschedule racing for Sunday, 10/6. Many of the boats could stay, so they will try it again tomorrow. Two of the 4 boats from Massapoag will be there tomorrow to make us proud - hope all goes well for all the participants. More to come...
