Crack in boom @ vang attachment

I noticed there is a one inch crack(up & down direction ) on the boom @ just above the slide track for the boom Vang. Is there enough aluminum meat to have that aluminum welded ? Is there another way to make the repair ? Will any repair keep it from breaking in the future ? Anyone out there with experience please advise ! Thanks, Bill

Sorry to say, but you need a new boom. If the old fittings can be removed, then you need only the extrusion. But if it were me, I'd get it complete, rigged with fresh parts. Be sure your new vang attachment is a bale instead of a track. The bale attaches up the side, instead of along the bottom. This is a stronger attachment. Also get a new gooseneck fitting with you new boom. 2 of the weakest links in a Scot are the vang attachment & the gooseneck. Both are undersized for a sail as large as a Scot main. just my 2 cents.
