North American Championship @ BWYC

Hello to all! I am Clinton Edwards and am the NAC Principal Race Officer and married to the Regatta Chairperson. There is no oil in the Bay or anywhere on the MS Gulf Coast. Weekly flights are being taken by officials, some I know personally, over the MS Sound from state line to state line. The MS Sound is the waters between the mainland and the barrier islands. Currently, the currents and winds are keeping the oil away! Sailing Continues... My kids (9 and 7) are actually sailing out front of Gulfport YC. Sailing camps up and down the coast are in full swing. Our seafood is still fresh and not contanimated!! Our club has started weekend races, Flying Scot race in Panama City, and New Orleans to Gulfport (PHRF) race all happened this past weekend. The GYA 420 Championship hosted by Long Beach YC is next weekend. Please do not confuse the shores of LA west of the MS River and east of Mobile Bay with the St Louis Bay. A quote from a sailor who sailed from New Orleans, LA to Gulfport, MS this past weekend. Finish times above include bridge time factored in. It was a very fast, easy race, with little to no bad weather encountered. Lead boats finished between 4pm and 4:30pm and the entire fleet was in by about 6pm. Most of the fleet beat Patrol II to the finish line and had to take their own time. NO TRACE OF OIL ENCOUNTERED! NONE, NADA! NOT SEEN, NOT SMELLED, NOT SHOWING UP ON ANY BOATS. For those boats who elected not to sail because of the oil spill, shame on you, you missed one the most enjoyable Races to the Coast in many years. All those who sailed had great expereinces of a fast, fun trip and they were all smiles in the Gulfport bar after the race while watching the sun go down. Hopefully the Pensacola Race will go on and a similar experience can be had!

BWYC had nine races for the Flying Scots this past weekend with an extra private FS owner checking out the area. My son, neice and the family of our US Congressman spent spent time swimming and floating in the water on Sunday. Still no oil in the bay! Conditions were 8-12 and current. It was very interesting for the sailors and RC boat. The Sunday party is shaping up and is sponsored by the BWYC membership. Monday is fish fry and band. We will have a list of favorite restaraunts on the Coast for Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday night buffet at the club, if you prefer to stay at the club. Thursday will be a sit down dinner for the annual meeting. We will have door prizes for the participants. Deacon John Dance/Party is Saturday night (July 3) and is great event for $20-25/person. Don't forget...free beer from Lazy Maganolia!!!![:D]

Please point your boat to Bay St. Louis, MS. There still is no oil near the bay. It is miles and miles and miles away (Who song!). The MS Sound is being protected by the barrier islands and the current. What you are seeing on TV is not in Mississippi!! If you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
