Inlets, and ocean sailing

Hi, I am former owner of FS4053 (sold in 2002) and I'm missing sailing. I always sailed mine in freshwater lakes, but find myself spending time at the beach now. I grew up around Wrightsville Beach, and ran Masonboro inlet in powerboats hundreds of times. What advice/cautions are there on running inlets, and sailing offshore, in a Scot? More likely along NC's southern beaches, Shallotte Inlet and Tubbs Inlet. I know the current can be pretty strong at ebb and flow...and the channel narrow at Tubb's. I'm sure somebody here has related experience. Former owner of FS4053...thinking about taking the plunge -- again.
