Need Volunteers for FSSA

Fellow Flying Scot sailors, the FSSA is in dire need of improvement and you can help. Two major areas of focus need your participation: 1. Membership and Membership Services: Today the FSSA needs you and your fellow Scot sailors to actively participate in our grand class by signing up as a card carrying dues paid member. This gives you a voice in the FSSA and the opportunity to make improvements. Recently our FSSA President appealed for help and made mention of the associations dire financial situation. One area of opportunity to lower FSSA cost and greatly increase services to all of us is Membership Services. DO YOU KNOW OF A MEMBERSHIP SERVICES OFFERING??? Please share if you do! Membership Services is a company, which may be as an online offering, that would manage our membership list, provides billing, registration, and renewals. Do you use a membership services today with your sailing club, school organization, country club, home owners association? If the experience is good, please do share what you know. Name of membership services company or website? Any cost information? 2. Communication (Scots-N-Water and Web) We need to do better here, PLEASE! All Scot sailors from across the country, day sailors, racers, cruisers. We all need to be sharing our experiences and photos in a more effective, timely, and more appealing way. What have YOU seen that is better? Examples: Did you take friends out on your Scot that have never sailed on a Scot before? ...snap a picture on your camera or phone, write a one paragraph story of how your friends liked the sail, where did you go? Or, what if you and some friends chartered a sailboat in the Caribbean? Where did you go? Where you all Scot sailors? Was it fun? Any challanges? Did you take pictures? ....please share. There is more to be a member of FSSA than the boat itself. It's an extended family of people that share many common interests. Let's be better family members by sharing more information in a more timely basis. The current Scots-N-Water publisher often requires a 4 month lead time or greater at a rather significant cost. Do you belong to another organization that uses a publisher for a periodical like Scots-N-Water? Please share what you know about them! We can make things better with FSSA and improve all that we do as a much more strong and vibrant class. Pitch in and help starting today! Share your thoughts. Volunteer information, pictures, article, and skills. Thank you and fair sailing! Michael [8D] Michael Mittman FS# 5804, Fleet 23 Corinthian Sailing Club White Rock Lake Dallas, TX

What are people's thoughts on Mandatory Dues? I am interested on how in the world the class spends so much $$$. What is going on here? Its not a matter of the $45 a year, more the principle of fiscal responsibility. I have requested access to our class financial statement, we will see what and / or it is responded too. For the class to spend the "rumored" $50k a year on admin is 100% out of line and all of the class execs should be ashamed, this is not that hard!

I would like to communicate my thoughts.

I would like to communicate my thoughts. I have owned my boat for three seasons now. I am supposed to be the fleet captain of Fleet 159 in Oswego NY. We have at least three active members but have not been listed as a fleet since I joined. I renewed my membership this year on line, paid with PAYPAL, the money was withdrawn from my account on May 30th. I have not recieved any correspondence from FSSA. Who do I contact to resolve these issues? I think that 5 weeks is enough time to turn this transaction around. Joe

I have to concur. I joined FSSA a couple of months ago. Paid online thru paypal, got no confirmation or welcome email/letter. I was about to contact fssa, but finally after few weeks my first issue of Scots'n Water arrived. Mario

I just paid $60 for a family membership a few days ago (after purchasing our used Scot a year ago), and I am also waiting for the "thank you/welcome" email in response to my payment. I feel that if an organization accepts online payments, it has to be prepared to recognize the contribution nearly immediately. I'm not looking for a personalized letter; an automated response with general information about the Association, and when to expect the Scots & Water publication would be sufficient.

To mgdezior, jmcclosk, mk720, and any others who have not gotten a timely response from FSSA. We are looking into improving. Since you all mention using Paypal, the membership application does not get control back from Paypal, unless you follow a link back. If you followed the link, you should have gotten a thank you page displayed. Nevertheless, we're looking at doing better. FSSA Forum editor

Dear Fellow Flying Scot sailors, When there are issues I strongly encourage you to contact the appropriate FSSA Executive Committee and District Governer directly. Their contact information is listed on the FSSA website under FSSA Officers. Please do NOT email using the generic addresses - your message most likely goes to a third party membership management services company, which hopefully will soon be changing. Keep involved! Volunteer your ideas to help grow FSSA, the quality and prompt sharing of information across our membership and to those interested in the Scot. Sincerely, Michael Michael Mittman FS# 5804, Fleet 23 Corinthian Sailing Club White Rock Lake Dallas, TX

The FSSA Executive Committee and Board of Govereners will be meeting at the FS Nationals (FS NAC) the first week of August. Look for positive updates from the meetings soon. ATTENTION FS FLEETS! You MUST delegate your fleet vote in writing (email ok) in order for your voice to be heard at the FS NAC - delegating to an FS NAC participant or attendee for example. The FSSA Constitution requires delegation or proxy defaults to the Executive Committee which may then cast your vote per their discretion. Get involved in improving FSSA, be sure your vote is cast to your fleet's wishes! Details on voting delegation and proxy procedure at FSSA.com under menu item "FSSA" then "Handbook". Contact the FSSA Secratary / Treasurer dianekampf@charter.net and / or your District Governer (http://www.fssa.com/ht/fssa/fssa-governors.htm) if you have any questions. Good sailing to all! I wouldn't delete this thread (or any other). The whole point of a message board is ability to search archived issues to be able to learn and possibly not repeat the same mistakes. just my 2 cents.

I completely agree - why delete the thread? Actually for me it's proving useful to figure out what my next step should be since I still haven't heard from fssa. I'm assuming you could close the thread or somehow make it inactive.

I am so sorry to hear you have not yet heard from FSSA.

I am so sorry to hear you have not yet heard from FSSA. Where are you located? We need to put you in touch with your disctrict governer and the FSSA Executive Board's Membership Committee Chair. I have contacted the district Governor, and She contacted the people who are supposed to take care of these things. I did receive an e-mail thanking me for renewing my membership. I have not received a sticker for my boat or a magazine. Our district championship is coming up and it will be awkward when asked for proof of my eligibility. FSSA received my payment in May.
