Sleeping on board

Silly question: I've heard a number of fellow FS owners speak of "sleeping on board" and that seems to be a rather tight fit. Is there something special I'm missing or do they just "hunker" down on the deck under the bow etc? I'd like to take a few overnighters and am looking for experienced suggestions! Summer is here! A custom trimmed piece of plywood or 2 to fit over the seats and trunk, covered with a camping mattress under a boom tent cover works well, OK even in the rain. Wood can stow forward for sailing by day.
