Winter Sailing 2009 in Brooklyn NY

Hi : I am a new member to the forum & I want to say Hi to everyone! The Flying Scot is such a great boat to sail, I sail it all winter on those days when the temps are 40 & up. When winds get too strong I reef & sail on the main alone . All the other sailors put their boats on the hard or just leave them on moorings until Spring . The Scot is dry , stable & very fast especially when the ocean is flat . Happy Sailing 2009 ! Bill

Hello from a fellow winter sailor from Suffork NY. I've had my Scot for almost 20 years. This winter was tough as I was ice locked for a month. When you reef the main how/where do you move the boom block? And yes flat is better than the pounding the Great South bay can whip up. Cheers mate

Hi Coolhand : sorry for not responding sooner to your Q ..... When reefing my Scot it is not necessary to remove the boom block or boom vang because I do not use the roller reefing on the boom . All of my mainsails have reefing points installed ,so I just use reefing knots around the boom without removing any of the regular hardware ! . Are you interested in purchasing a main with reefing points ? If so, go to the forum "Items wanted /for sale". I have a posting there .
