Master Helper

Hi all! I've had the Master Helper for a while. Has anyone tried attaching the jib halhard to the top of the A frame loop instead of the forestay when lowering or raising the mast. It would save an extra step since the forestay is already free and when raising the mast (for example) one could simply attach it to the forestay extension. Thanks, Ed FS 1054

I have used a mast-helper many times, the jib halyard is not a good idea because if the pawl on the winch box is not completely 'locked in', an accidental release is likely; furthermore, gravity is working against you with regards to the pawl ... it wants to fall open. I put a small carbiner on the line @ the top of the A-frame toward the forestay and pulled against the forestay pin to raise the mast.
