Wanted: Ride on Scot near Fort Worth or BUY in DFW

Hi, I have been sailing a Hobie 14 and a Sunfish for about 10 years. I have always been frustrated with the inability to tack the Hobie (you have to be a magician without a jib) and the inability to easily carry passengers on both boats. Therefore I want to try a Scot. Would anyone be willing to take me out on their boat for a sail? I am in Granbury, near Fort Worth. If not, would anyone have a Scot that they want to sell near DFW? Did you contact the head for the FS fleet? Often the boat clubs have several different fleets and not everybody in interested or knowledgeable about the Flying Scot. For the Corinthian Sailing Club for example you might want to contact Tom Miller (Club Info -> General Info & Contacts -> Fleet and Activity Contacts). If that doesn't work I would try one of the Officers (Club Info -> Club Officers) and as them who I should contact.

Another tack might be to look at the CSC website and see when the races are. You could then offer to crew. Most clubs are eager to find more folks who want to crew. I think Mike Mittman is a member of CSC and sells Scots in Dallas. I bet he would give you a ride, and advice on a new or used Scot. Brian, I live in McKinney and we recently purchased a used Scot 1334. Unfortunately, it is up in the finger lakes region in New York. Having sailed a Hobie 16 (the jib doesn't help the come about much) and a sunfish for over 20 years, I really enjoyed sailing the scot the past two weeks when I was in NY on vacation. One day we went out in a stiff breeze - My dad, three brothers, and myself. Five adults sailing comfortably! Try that in a hobie or sunfish! I am sure someone in the CYC will offer you a ride locally and I would pursue purchasing a scot asap - I think you will enjoy it. It sounds like you will be taking others sailing with you which I would recommend for the scot - it would be a difficult boat to rig/deploy/return solo - something I was able to do easily on the Hobie and Sunfish. With a little practice and a deeper mooring, I hope to accomplish soloing a scot in the years to come! Regards, Marty FS1334

Thanks very much for the encouragement and ideas. Greta Mittman, District Governor for the Southwest District contacted me and offered to take me out. She even let me know of a couple of boats for sale. Thanks to the FSSA editor who contacted her for me! I will be going in a couple of weeks. I am excited! Thanks everyone.
