Best of luck in finding a suitable Scot and a trustworthy seller

Best of luck in finding a suitable Scot and a trustworthy seller. When I decided to get a Scot, I just barely missed the find of a lifetime...literally by minutes. Then next had an unfortunate long distance experience with an unreliable seller, then finally got our boat long distance that was suitable but only after concessions and some hard dedicated work. Now finally we are enjoying improving, learning about, and sailing our Scot. This forum group of owners has been most helpful as well as the FS, Inc folks....not perfect but great.

Hi Philster, This topic is getting philisophical which is interesting. Buying or selling a boat or juggling both at same time can be stressful or challenging depending on one's personality. And I have found that the agenda and priorities of others are practically never like my own, I wish they were but have learned to accept "pretty close" as good. I guess I can only trust close friends to be reliable because they care, and we want to please each other. I can't fathom why strangers do as they do sometimes, but I realize I have not walked in their shoes. And handling many things well when the going gets touch is called multi-tasking and some can handle that better than others. Most members of this forum have probably taken some sort of personality type testing like Myers-Briggs etc and from that find different folks process and act according to their natural style. So it is so nice when a boat is sold and when is found and bought....did both in 2007 and hope not to do that ever again...that would be nice. I once heard that FS owners are the nicest people and can be trusted totally. I don't buy the trustworthy part but can see folks with a same interest have a bond such as saiing, motorcycling, hiking, dancing, etc. Stuff happens on forums. Go Flying Scot's, Go Hokies.

One last comment on this. I did make a long trip in 2007 to buy a FS advertised on the FSSA caveate emptor and found the boat severely misrepresented and thought it a little fishy when the owner said he could not send pictures because his camera was not working. He had just 2 pics available and they were from too distant a vantage point but it seemed there were some condition concerns. But he said the boat was in wonderful condition and no need for concern and FS owners can be trusted. It was unbelievable and I learned a lesson....buyer beware. And before I made the trip to get my FS in Florida, the owner's son-in-law took lots of pictures that clearly represented the boat in good condition....he was a fine fellow. Earlier in the year I had missed the "One" I wanted by about 30 minutes as I contacted my wife about buying this rare find even though we had not yet sold our other boat. Like I said, I hope I don't have to go through this again. Now I am having a ball improving the used FS I own and can't wait for spring to arrive. Good luck.

Kyle was responsive to my inquiry and forthcoming with information with my phone call and emails. He seemed pretty honest in its condition and that it may be considered a project boat to get it cleaned up & painted. It seems my contact with him was just after his move. Kyle was willing to make arrangements for a family member to show me the boat. I have not seen the boat and am still considering it for the spring. Unfortunately for me, my wife wanted the bathroom gutted and remodeled so that's where I put my time & funds this winter. TomT
