Mast step

I have just put the mast up for the first time on the Scot I rebuilt and raked the mast 28'4" as recommended buy North sails. The problem is the the bottom of the mast does not sit squarely on the step. I assume this is normal as the other two boats I looked at have the same thing. My question is; can I shim the mast step to make the two parts line up? Would there be a rule preventing this?[?]

jm; your problem does not sound right. does the mast seat properly under sail with the forestay tight? i have never heard of shimming up a mast step on a scot. is the mast or mast step bent? [:p] Hard Starboard; FS 803

JM, Did you find anything further on this? I have a brand new Scot. My mast rake was 3-4 inches off "stock" so I bought a forestay extender to improve my rake. I haven't measured it yet but I assume it is much closer to the spec. Anyway, my mast now does not sit squarely on the step either, it is angled back noticeably. Just curious if you came to any conclusions on this subject. Greg

My mast base was damaged when I got it to the point that the pivot would fall to the side. I installed the sleeve to fix that and it worked perfectly. FS 1385
