Racing practice weekend in the SE
All:
I belong to a rather small and inactive FS fleet. Too, I am new to sailing and Flying Scots; my wife and I bought the boat and started sailing late in '05. We try to race every weekend and tend to be about 5% to 10% slower (based on times) that the other Scot in our typical club race. And, overall on Portsmouth handicaps, tend to finish in the middle to lower-middle of the pack.
I want to get better.
Would any FS sailors in the southeast be interested in planning a weekend somewhere we all could travel to and spend some quality time practicing on the water and exchanging information?
I've read about the value of practicing boatspeed alongside other boats of the same class, about sailing drills to improve tacks and jibes, about starting drills and techniques, of videotaping to point out slow spots when puffs hit or crew position, and so forth. I'd really like to get together with some Scot racers and learn!
If you're interested, please share your thoughts or ideas.
