rudder pin, deck harware

How does one prevent the rubber from falling out during a capsize? What is it usually secured to? Also the deck hardware ruch as rachet blocks etc, are they usually secured with machine screws and nuts? I was thinking of using oak blocks under the deck and then screwing the hardware into those, would that be a bad idea? I have spent the last month painting FS 173, it looks good if you squint or dont go too close :(

The rudder pin cannot come out as long as the tiller is in place. The tiller blocks it from working its way up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FS5074
