Mast clean up

Just purchased #820 a few days ago........She's cleaning up easier than I thought .........My question is about the mast......any ideas how to clean the black stuff off the surface?......I am so excited.....I haven't sailed on a Scot since my teens......My dad had # 169 and 1776....If the mast can't be made to look nice has anyone tried spray painting it lets say flat black?.......The boat is sound ...the core is intact......It will be fun updating some of the older fittings......Help me out guys and gals with some good advice......Steve Ungberg

Sure paint the mast, it looks good. We have one Scot in Fleet #13, Privateer Yacht Club, Chattanooga TN that is white with a black cove stripe, mast, boom and spinaker pole. It was bought as the first Scot by our current club Commodore and is a very sharp looking vessel. I wish you luck in cleaning up your boat, don't be a stranger to the community. Hit the road and race your boat.
