Bruce and Lynn Kitchen proudly hoist the Egyptian Cup!

Twenty-two boats - 9 from Cliton Lake Sailing Association - registered for the 2017 Egyptian Cup Regatta at Careyle Sailing Association. Due to Sunday's forecast for lstorms and heavy winds, PRO Ted Beier held 4 races on Saturday.  Two W-L races were sailed in the morning in 8-12 MPH WSW winds. In the afternoon the winds held steady and there was 1 modified Olympic and 1 W-L course.  After Day 1 the top 5 boats were separated by just 5 points.

After racing came the beer, dark and stormies (rum and ginger beer) and a delicious dinner  prepared by Greg and Melissa Ziegenfuss of Butler's Pantry.  Then Saturday night's expeted weather forced everyone to tie their boats down.  A fierce storm with lots of thunder and lightning and lots of rain came and filled the boats with water.

Sunday the winds started out heavy and gusty but by race time it was 10-12 with some gusts.  hHile the PRO kept an eye on the weather, 1 more race was completed. Bruce and Lynn Kitchen finished first. Frank and Marianne were second. Ben Williams and Deb Aronson were third.

Another great job by CSA!  Full results are here.

From Rich Fox:

Many thanks to all the Club members who helped out on the Race Committee boats for the Flying Scot Regatta, including - Janet Hickok, Bob Hickok, Kenny Chapman, Nan Schulze, Dave Dyer, Stan Kroh, Sheila Krout, Tom Newgent (Spotter), Les Miller. We ran six races for 12 Flying Scots, out of which 10 boats were from out-of-state. Thank you for giving up a good part of your weekend to help ECSC put on a great regatta for some of the top Flying Scot sailors in the country! After each day of racing, we enjoyed the excellent hospitality that was organized by Geoff and Myra Endris, and Nick Mates & Jackie.

If any Flying Scot sailors says they are NOT sore from this weekend's regatta...they are probably not telling you the truth. We tried to make sure they go their money's worth of racing!

2017 Southwest Districts Flooded Out - Still a Great Effort by Fleet 23!

2017SQflood1 2017SWflood2

From Fleet 23's Facebook Page:

The 2017 Southwest District Flying Scot Championships have been abandoned today and will be rescheduled later this year. I want to personally thank everyone involved with this event. Despite the flooding and lack of wind we all had a positive experience. Corinthian Sailing Club has great members. I want to tell you that while we waited in vain for the wind our happy group of volunteers and sailors had fun doing several important activities. We rescued a Flying Scot that was found swamped near the spillway. Our group temporarily fixed two broken davits and drained three swamped Flying Scots. The extensive amount of flotsam and jetsam left by the receding water were removed from the docks by our team. Logs, stumps, branches and trees were towed out of the slips and pulled out of the water. The amount of work completed was impressive. Meanwhile the wind never showed up. But the powerful kind spirit of our club reigns supreme. Thank you all for making this a great weekend. Sail a Flying Scot and have an adventure!

More to come once this has been rescheduled!
