Some Sad News in the Flying Scot Community

I am sad to inform the Flying Scot community that William Claypool, father of Nancy and Carol Claypool, passed away on February 19, 2014, at age 93.  He was instrumental in the early days of our Association in getting us started and helping to make us what we are today.  He is also a Past President of FSSA, serving from 1965-1966.  We do not have all arrangements or information yet. but the family is asking for donations to the Flying Scot Foundation in his name.  If you care to donate, please send a check, noting it is in William's memory, to: Flying Scot Foundation, One Windsor Cove, Suite 305, Columbia, SC, 29223.

2013 Hospitality Regatta in Jackson, MS

2013 Hospitality Regatta, Jackson MS

On October 19 and 20 2013, the Jackson Yacht Club hosted its annual fall regatta, the Hospitality Regatta.  In the past, this has been a premier regatta for sailors all classes in the Deep South with several hundred boats participating at its peak including a large Scot fleet.  Unfortunately participation has dwindled over the years.

Thanks to the tireless work of regatta chair, Sherrye LaCour, that trend was reversed this year.  Our record turnout for recent years featured Flying Scots, J22s, multihull, PHRF spinnaker and cruising fleets.  In addition, area Lightening has added Jackson to their traveling circuit.

2013 Chaos Cup at Quannapowitt YC in Wakefield, MA

2013 QYC

From Diane Kampf - Greg and I had the pleasure of participating in the 6th Annual Flying Scot Chaos Cup regatta at Quannapowitt Yacht Club in Wakefield, MA, on Saturday, October 19.  the Chaos Cup has a long history at QYC, but most recently has become a Flying Scot regatta. QYC has a long history as well, being the oldest inland Yacht Club in the country having been founded in 1884!
