The purpose
of the FLYING-SCOT emailing list is to create an open dialogue for
Flying Scot sailors. You can exchange thoughts, ask advice, give tips,
or do anything else related to Scot sailing. Your email will go to
everyone on the list. But please do not clutter up the internet with
irrelevant or redundant traffic. We want to use the list solely for
things directly related to Flying Scots and its sailors. The
instructions for joining the list are as follows:
Step 1.
To subscribe to the Flying Scot emailing list, send an email message
to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu
Leave the subject line blank. As the message text, type
SUBSCRIBE FLYING-SCOT your-name
For "your-name" simply enter however you want to be
addressed, e.g.. John Doe
Step 2. Upon receipt of this message, the listserv program will
send an email to you asking that you reply within 48 hours to confirm
your subscription request.
Reply to this message leaving the subject line untouched and typing
OK
as the message text.
You
will receive an email confirming your subscription.
Step 3. To send a message on your own topic to everyone on the
list, address an email message to FLYING-SCOT@LISTSERV.WVNET.EDU
When you want to respond to emails received from the
list server, simply reply to the email.
Managing
your subscription to the Flying Scot list server, is easily done using
the list server web.
To use the list server web interface you must first get a
password. Go to http://listserv.wvnet.edu
Select "Subscriber's Corner". You will be prompted to
fill out a password application. (As always, write down the
password.)
After completing the password application, you will receive a an email
from the list server. The message instructs you to follow a web link
which, since it comes from your email id, confirms you are who you say
you are.
Once validated, the password is stored as a "cookie" on your
pc. On Subsequent visits to the "Subscriber's Corner",
you will not be prompted for your password, unless you move to another
pc, or your browser's "cookies" are "crunched".
Use the "Subscriber's Corner" to manage how the list server
handles your subscription to FLYING-SCOT.
What
to do if your email id will be or has been changed...
Your subscription to FLYING-SCOT will only work with the email id
you used when subscribing. If you are in the process of changing
ids and still have access to the old one, use the old id to send a
message to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu.
As the message text, type
SIGNOFF FLYING-SCOT
Then, follow the procedure at the top of this page to sign up again,
making sure to use your new email id for sending the subscription
request.
If you no longer can use your old email id, follow the procedure at the top of this page to
sign up using your new email id. Then, send an email to the
listserv owner, Gary Schubert, asking him to remove your other subscription(s)
Make sure to tell Gary what the old email id(s) were (if you know them),
and the email id for the "good" subscription.
What
to do if you want to be removed from the list...
Use the email id you used when
subscribing to the list. Send a message to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu.
As the message text, type
SIGNOFF FLYING-SCOT
