Quannapowitt Yacht club in Wakefield, MA, hosted the 2014 Chaos Cup on 10/18/2014. There were 6 races sailed in shifty and gusty 12-16 MPH winds on an unusually warm 70-degree October day. The trees with fall colors was a nice background for the races! With leads changing constantly, it is not suprising that several different skippers won the races. What a blast!

On a summerlike weekend in late September, Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westoport CT hosted 22 Thistles and 10 Flying Scots in the 2014 Fontelieu Fall Classic. Saturday brought us some fair winds that got us out on the race course on time with hope of getting in at least one race, given that the forecast for Sunday was little to no wind. Although the wind did wane a bit during some of the racing, we did get in 3 races for the Flying Scots and 4 for the Thistles. As was predicted by the PRO DIck Thackaberry, in the first race the wind started from the northwest and shifted on

Once again wind forecasts were incorrect. All of the “best” websites for forecasting winds on Lake Pontchartrain were wrong. All had predicted light southerly’s the entire Memorial Day weekend of the Gulf District Trifecta. And all weekend we wound up with 8-12 knot northerlies for the 5 race series. But at least there was no rain!

Saturday 8/10 had brisk winds 14 - 20+ from the Southwest gave us a real challenge on the racecourse today. 19 boats ventured out and we all managed to stay upright, although a few boats ALMOST went over. Over the course of the 4 races, the wind continued to build, but we stayed out and kept racing. There were a few people after the races saying "I have to call Harry", but mostly boats stayed intact even in the heavy air.

The winds were howling in Harwichport on 8/3, with 25 MPH out of the SW, gusting even higher and flags were pointing practically straight up! The Race Committee headed out and a few boats went out past the breakwater. With several boats, even some with 3-up, nearly capsizing, deciding to come back in, we waited a bit before making a decision about going out. Within 15 minutes, the Race Committee came back in with a postpone flag. Less than 1/2 hour later races were cancelled for the day. The regatta will be sailed on Sunday 8/4.
