The Flying Scot Foundation

Foundation Mission Statement:

The Flying Scot Sailing Association has established The Flying Scot Foundation to allow members and friends to make tax-deductible gifts and bequests of lasting significance that will help assure the long-term viability and vitality of the Flying Scot class. 2013 Wife-Husband Championships - Sign Up Now!

We'd like to remind everyone that the 2013 Flying Scot Wife-Husband registration information is under the events section here.  The deadline for signing up with the reduced fee is June 15th so sign up soon to save a little money.  If you are interested in assistance with lodging, please contact Charles Buffington or Bob Vance. .

NOTE: The Flying Scot Foundation has a Sail Donation Program designed to collect gently used Flying Scot sails, repair them if necessary, and send them to sail training programs that use Flying Scots to train adult sailors.  Currently we have many more requests for sails than we have re-purposed sails to provide.  If you plan to attend the Wife-Husband at Deep Creek or you know someone who does, please ask around your club and see if there are sailors willing to donate gently-used sails to the Foundation. Write their names and contact information on the sail bags, throw them in the boat that is going to Deep Creek and contact Charles Buffington to arrange transfer.  The Foundation is a 501-c-3 organization.  We will provide a tax letter concerning your donation in which you will assign the value.

Flying Scot Foundation - New Web Page is Live!!

Our Flying Scot Foundation's web pages have joined the mother ship FSSA.com rather than having its own separate website.  Click here or click "Foundation" on the menu bar above to access these pages. Have a look at the new pages and the content, and consider making a donation while you are there.  Many thanks for your support of this important initiative that helps to assure the future of Flying Scot sailing.

2013 Cowan Lake Pig Roast Regatta - June 1 & 2

2013 Cowan Lake Pig Roast Regatta - June 1 & 2.

Thank you to all who attended our event!!  Total of 20 competitors in two fleets, with 7 from out of town made for a great crowd around CLSA this year.

Sailing on Saturday was in great wind.  Quite a bit shifty.  Average MPH approx 15 with a few gusts pushing 23 MPH according to our RC.  Wind direction was not ideal for Cowan but our RC did a great job setting up the best course they could.  Got three very competitive races in as the predicted bad weather held off until later in the night.

Regatta Date:
Saturday, June 1, 2013 - Sunday, June 2, 2013

Our Thoughts are With the Tornado Victims

We want to extend our thoughts and prayers to all the families who are touched by the volume of tornado activity that is currently spreading across the mid-south and midwestern United States.  And to those who lost family members, our sympathies go out to you.  The damages that are seen on tv don't come close to giving the whole picture.  Those of us who are far away can only imagine how this is affecting so many people who no longer have homes or who are forced to leave their homes. Fellow Scot sailors, please keep all these folks in your thoughts.

Buckeye Regatta 2013

Sailed at Hoover Reservoir in light winds on Saturday but better on Sunday AM. Great venue with 10 HP limit on power boats so no unwlecome waives. Sunshine, great friends, good food, fine band. Trophies to the ususal suspects - Hohler, Griffin, Courts and Benner. See full results attached.

Regatta Date:
Saturday, May 18, 2013 - Sunday, May 19, 2013

Midwest District Launches its Own Travel Series

As we here in the Midwest saw other districts launch successful travel series (I’m speaking mainly of the Dixie Lakes district, thanks to the late Charlie Fowler), and because we’d also like to encourage sailors in our district to travel more within the district, we decided to create our own Midwest District Traveling Series.
