Also, the Lakeside Chatauqua is about 30 minutes away (http://www.lakesideohio.com/) Lakeside offers recreation programs —including a splash park — and kids programs, arts and entertainment and education, as well as accommodations. Off the coast is Kelley’s Island State Park http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/kelleysisland Known as Lake Erie’s Emerald Isle, the island is renowned for its geology and archaeology as well as its recreational offerings and picturesque landscapes. The 677-acre state park is located on the northern shores of the island. Privately operated ferries offer frequent daily service for cars, RVs, bicyclists and pedestrians from the mainland at Marblehead and Sandusky. Golf carts and bicycles are available for rent from private vendors. The Lake Erie Shores and Island Welcome Center is an excellent source for travel options and ideas, go to the Lake Erie Shores & Islands website or call (800) 255-3743. Put-In Bay is another fun off shore attraction also easily accessible by ferry. http://www.visitputinbay.org About an hour away: Further afield there is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum (rockhall.com) in Cleveland. 100 miles away: The Pro Football Hall of Fame is in Canton(www.profootballhof.com) and the surrounding communities, especially the towns of Berlin and Millersburg, are home to a large Amish community. About two hours southwest of Sandusky: The Ohio Caverns http://www.ohiocaverns.com/ , one of Ohio’s oldest tourist attractions. Easily accessible from I-70, 75 and 71. The cavern is covered with white crystal formations and colors, one of Ohio's oldest tourist attractions. Columbus, the state capital, is about two hours due south from Sandusky. In addition, Columbus is the home of The Ohio State University, and visitors might like to visit the football stadium, also known as the “Horseshoe” or the “Shoe.” Three hours from Sandusky is historic Greenville, Oh. For an unusual pastime, the KitchenAid Experience Retail Center in Greenville has activities, demonstrations, and cooking classes. You can shop the outlet store, visit the museum, and tour the mixer factory. Greenville has a long history, including being the location of the 1795 Treaty of Greenville, which “established the Northwest Territory and fueled the country's westward expansion by giving the new nation important access to the upper Mississippi.” The city has dozens of historic buildings (the site housing the KitchenAid Experience retail center was the Turpin House Hotel from 1885 to 1914) and the downtown retains the feel of 19th century America.
