2013 Ephraim 108th Annual Regatta

The 108th consecutive annual Ephraim Regatta was a big success.  Despite light and lumpy sailing conditions, the race committee managed to complete two races on each day.  And everyone, racers and non-racers alike, had fun at Friday’s Regatta Welcome Party and Saturday’s Bratfest!

2013 New England Districts - Day 2

We had just the opposite weather on Sunday, 8/4, with light and variable winds. Two of the 16 boats had to leave and could not return on Sunday. It was a warm, sunny day on the harbor, and we we got in 4 races, thanks to a terrific Race Committee. Thanks sp much to the Stone Horse Yacht Club for hosting! Results are here

2013 New England Districts - Day 1

The winds were howling in Harwichport on 8/3, with 25 MPH out of the SW, gusting even higher and flags were pointing practically straight up! The Race Committee headed out and a few boats went out past the breakwater. With several boats, even some with 3-up, nearly capsizing, deciding to come back in, we waited a bit before making a decision about going out. Within 15 minutes, the Race Committee came back in with a postpone flag. Less than 1/2 hour later races were cancelled for the day. The regatta will be sailed on Sunday 8/4.

2013 NAC at Lake Norman Yacht Club, Mooresville, NC - DAY 6

2012 NAC Championship winners2013 NAC Challenger winners

Championship winners - Jeff and Amy Linton                       Challenger winners - Greg and Diane Kampf

We were extremely lucky and got in 3 superb races today with SSW winds 8 - 12.  PRO Jim Tichenor and the RC did a fabulous job of getting them all started before 1PM and we were off the water by about 3PM.  We cannot control the weather but the patience of this Race Committee was unmatched as they waited for the right time to go out each day that we had wind and kept the fleets moving with very little time in between races.  The food and hospitality was great and the volunteers really made it easy for all of us.  We want to thank chairperson Carol Claypool and the Lake Norman Yacht Club for a fabulous event.  It was another successful NAC.

Message from your outgoing President Diane Kampf

Greg and Diane kampf

Dear fellow sailors,

As my term as Flying Scot Sailing Association President comes to a close, I cannot adequately explain what a privilege it has been to serve in this role.  Yes, there have been some long hours and, yes, it was worth every minute.  I have loved hearing from each of you who reached out to me with an issue, an idea, a complaint, or a compliment.  I have addressed every one of them in some way and, although you may not always have gotten the result you hoped for, you can rest assured that each item was addressed.

There are many people to thank, but let me start with you.  Each and every member of FSSA keeps our organization strong, keeps the boat value at its highest level possible, and keeps the camaraderie at its best.  So thanks to all of you who continue to be a part of this wonderful group of people who have become like family to me.
