Crystal Ball Regatta 2012

The Crystal Sailing Club of Michigan hoisted its 17th annual Crystal Ball Regatta on Sep 8th and 9th, 2012. A late year regatta that drew eight boats from Michigan and Illinois. On Saturday, the sailors found sustained winds of 22 mph and gusts up to 32 mph! Local sailor Freyja Davis found herself in 2nd place at the end of the day with 2nd and 1st place finishes for two of three races. On Sunday, the wind calmed to steady 8-12 mph, providing for a great second day of racing. Throughout the two days, there was close racing throughout the fleet – always someone just a stern or on the lee side.

Frank Gerry won the regatta finishing in 1st in two of the five races. Brian Hawkins came back from a first day DSQ to finish in second. Local sailor, Steve Last, had a strong overall performance to capture 3rd place.
