Corinthian Sailing Club in Dallas, TX, hosted a terrific makeup Women and Juniors NAC, with 2 great weather days, shifting conditions, great race management, and great Texas hospitality.  By 11AM on Saturday, the boats were all rigged, skippers meetings were done and racing was on!  There were two races on Saturday morning and one in the afternoon, then here were 2 more races on Sunday. With the 10 women's teams and 6 Junior teams participating, there was loads of good close racing with multiple lead changes,

Practice Day, Southwest District Governor Robert Cummings wrote "The Practice Race went well for the 2017 Women & Juniors North American Championship Re-Scheduled Regatta in Dallas. Looking forward to a beautiful day of sailing tomorrow! It was so much fun meeting sailors from across the country!".

Day 1, Jody Smith reported  that "the first two races had great wind with great sailing" and later reported that "the third race was a great race! A lot of changes of position. The racers put on a sailing clinic. the Junior sailors were sailing close at each mark. The wind was up and down and shifty. The women's standings demonstrate the talent and challenging conditions. Nice job to all the sailors!"

Dari Esfahani reported "What a great day on the water. It was just as much fun to be helping on Race Support, as it was racing" seeing all the smiles on the participants.

Day 2 began with only 4 points separating the top 5 boats. and Dari reported that after 2 more great races "Final Results. Mom wins the Women's and Daughter wins the Juniors", referring to Greta Mittman and Heid Gough as the Women's Champions and Rachel and Michael Mittman as the Junior Champions.

2017 Southwest Districts Flooded Out - Still a Great Effort by Fleet 23!

2017SQflood1 2017SWflood2

From Fleet 23's Facebook Page:

The 2017 Southwest District Flying Scot Championships have been abandoned today and will be rescheduled later this year. I want to personally thank everyone involved with this event. Despite the flooding and lack of wind we all had a positive experience. Corinthian Sailing Club has great members. I want to tell you that while we waited in vain for the wind our happy group of volunteers and sailors had fun doing several important activities. We rescued a Flying Scot that was found swamped near the spillway. Our group temporarily fixed two broken davits and drained three swamped Flying Scots. The extensive amount of flotsam and jetsam left by the receding water were removed from the docks by our team. Logs, stumps, branches and trees were towed out of the slips and pulled out of the water. The amount of work completed was impressive. Meanwhile the wind never showed up. But the powerful kind spirit of our club reigns supreme. Thank you all for making this a great weekend. Sail a Flying Scot and have an adventure!

More to come once this has been rescheduled!
