After all, it's not like we turn 60 every year!!! Have you registered? If not, why not?   J And if you have, consider trying to encourage another member of your local fleet to join us!  Come join the fun, the racing, the friendship and the adventure!  And remember, if you join us by this Thursday (June1), you'll save $50 with early registration fees.  Information and Registration here

Tip of the Day and Debriefs every day at the 2017 NAC!

2017NACns

Zeke Horowitz and Brian Hayes from North Sails will be serving coffee and light refreshments each morning from 8:30 - 9:30 in the launch area.  Additionally, at 8:30 they will do a morning "Tip of the Day" at the tent. This will be an informal chance for them to share thoughts on what to expect on the water that day and for folks to ask questions. They'll incorporate some of the top sailors to join us each day to share a tip and will post it on a white board under the North Coffee tent.  They will also run the debriefs each day and will rotate in the days "stars" and other class experts each day.

You might want to be at the NAC JUST for this, but come for the racing and the camaraderie too!

2017 Buckeye Regatta - Hoover Sailing Club, Westerville. OH

2017Buckeye

The winners - the Kitchens - first, the Bruss's - third and the Trasks - second.   Congrats to all!

49th BUCKEYE REGATTA 2017 - HOOVERS SAILING CLUB

Ten intrepid sailors and crew made it to Westerville, Ohio for the 49th Buckeye Regatta held as Hoover Sailing Club.  Number 11, Frank and Marianne Gerry, were sidelined by an errant motorist in Indianapolis to the detriment of their boat and car but fortunately no human injuries.  The good news is there was wind; the not so good news is that it was out of the East on Saturday and shifty. Made spinnaker flying a challenge. By Saturday the wind shifted to its natural position out of the Southwest, the race committee set a great course and we were off.  Being intrepid we did not let a little rain stop us!

Full results are here but Bruce and Lynn Kitchen took home the first place treasure ( again) followed by Hoover sailors Ray, Scot and Kathy Trask in second and Bill and Lauren Bruss in third. At least we kept some of the treasure at home!  We should also note that everyone stayed in their boats and upright – seemingly quite an accomplishment for the Kitchens. (If you missed the Scuttlebut video you should take a look) Video is here.

Learn to Sail at the Deep Creek Sailing School – Celebrating 25 years!

dcss1

Registration is open at the Deep Creek Sailing School. Enjoy beautiful scenery as you learn to sail in the mountains of western Maryland. In addition to our very popular junior weeks and teen week, we have three adult instruction weeks scheduled. The weeks of June 19 and July 17 will focus on beginner/intermediate levels of sailing and introduction to racing. The week of July 24 will focus on intermediate/advanced levels of sailing including sail trim, racing, and spinnaker skills. We understand that a week may be too much of a commitment - hence we are offering both Monday to Friday and Monday to Wednesday options for adult weeks. The school also offers 3-hour private lessons. On July 8, 2017, the Deep Creek Sailing School is celebrating its 25th year since being established in 1992. Former instructors and students are welcome to join the celebration. Contact the sailing school if you are interested.
